The Airbus A400 M is a
newly developed military transport from Airbus Military that has a much
higher payload and range than previous models. It will primarily
replace the German-French Transall and should also win new customers
and extend its sphere of operations. The first flight took place on
11.12.2009, since when it has been on test. It is planned to go into
service at the beginning of 2012. The Airbus A400 M should meet the
more exacting requirements for military air transport performance as it
can offer longer range with greater loading capacity and more flexible
capabilities. The maximum load is 37 tonnes; the range with average
load is 6575 km. Carrying capacity: 116 soldiers or 2 Tiger or Apache
combat helicopters or 3 M113 armoured transport vehicles. It is planned
to buy a total of 180. The new Revell model will include a detailed
cargo compartment, a combined cockpit and a movable loading ramp. With
a components list that can be regarded as similar to that of the C-160
Transall.
