The Alpha Jet was
developed as an advanced trainer and light combat and tactical support
aircraft. It entered military service in 1978. Valued for its
manoeuvrability, safety and performance, the Alpha Jet has been in use
with the French Air Force for training and instruction since 1979. In
2008 the "One Millionth" flying hour on Alpha Jets was achieved on a
French Air Force machine. One aircraft subsequently received the
"Alpha" Logo and the "AJeTS" insignia of the Training Squadron.
