The German Society for Sea Rescue (DGzRS =
Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger ) is one of the most advanced rescue services in the world. Funded entirely by donations. The life-savers are ready for use on the German North and Baltic Sea coast 24 hours a day with a fleet of 61 cruisers and lifeboats distress.
"Hermann Marwede" is one
of the most modern ships of this type in the world. It is the largest
Ocean-going rescue ship ever to enter service in Germany. The ship was
named in the Summer of 2003 and is stationed on the North Sea Island of
Helgoland. It has a maximum speed of 25 knots (46.3 km/h; 28.75 mph)
and a maximum range of 3926 km (2438 st. miles). Propulsion is provided
by three engines with a total power output of 9250 Bhp. The ship has
its own small hospital, a crane, an inflatable boat, fire fighting
appliances and a Helicopter Landing Platform on-board. The on-board
inshore craft can achieve a speed of 18 knots (21 mph) and also operate
in shallow waters. Since its formation in 1865, members of the DGzRS
(German Lifeboat Institution) have saved over 76000 people from
life-threatening situations. The rescue work of the institution is
financed completely from charitable donations. The model has a two-part
hull and includes engraved detail on the decks. This provides for ease
of construction and also makes it suitable for beginners. A multitude
of details, for instance the Water Canon, Searchlights, Winches and the
highly detailed Radar Mast and Crane are authentically reproduced. A
decal set for the On-Board Inshore-craft "Verena" is also provided.
