The French "Jeanne d'Arc" (R97) was used as a helicopter carrier from 1964 until June 2010. 6 to 10 helicopters were stationed on board. Primarily used as a training vessel for naval officers, she last saw active service rescuing French hostages from the clutches of Somali pirates.
