Developed in 1936 as a medium bomber, the Ju 88 production reached a total of 15,000 units. The German Luftwaffe used it, inter alia, as a bomber, reconnaissance plane, night fighter and destroyer. The fmous multi-purpose aircraft was powered by two Junkers Jumo 211 J engines of 1420 PS (1050kW).
